The nearby Newmarket Town Park includes walkways, a grass pitch, two tennis courts (free to use), outdoor fitness equipment, picnic tables and a children’s playground. There is a DVD rental store opposite the park which has a snooker & pool-hall above, which is very popular with teenage children.
James O’Keeffe Memorial Institute
The James O’Keeffe Memorial Institute, previously a mansion built by the Aldworth family, is now the home of IRD Duhallow, a community based rural development company.
Also in the grounds is a menage where people with horses can come to practice jumps. There is also a riding stables about fifteen mins from the town, Valley View Equestrian Centre.
Pitch & Putt
The newly re-designed Pitch & Putt golf course on the premises of the James O’Keefe Institute provides an excellent challenge for serious and casual golfers alike.
Island Wood has miles of paths and trails along the river Dallau and through the woods. A beautiful place to visit at any time of year, full of wildlife including the commonly seen Red Squirrels.
The Newmarket Summer Festival takes place each summer for 10 days between the end of June and the start of July. Great fun for all ages.
Traditional Irish music is on offer weekly in Newmarket’s bars.

Ideal location while visiting the Millstreet horse show (15 minute drive).
Millstreet Country Park
Millstreet Country Park. This 500 acre privately owned country park is just 15 minute drive and is open to visitors Seasonally. It has walks, gardens, cafe, and a mini bus trip around the estate. It is very well maintained and has audio assisted self guided trails.
Cork Racecourse, Mallow
Only thirty minutes from Cork Racecourse in Mallow.
Take a walk on Mount Hillary only 20 minutes away. This trail head has three different looped walks that will take you from 40 minutes to 2 hours.
This walk follows forest park roads for its entire route. There are alternative walkways that increase the difficulty. The Blackwater Valley neighbours the paths and beautiful views are afforded over it.

Just twelve miles from the River Blackwater with it’s famous Salmon fishing.
Kanturk Golf Club is just 10 minutes drive. Charleville and Mallow golf clubs are both within 30 minutes by car.
